Hair Expo 2008 Hairdressing Awards - Finalists Announced

The finalists for the Hair Expo Australia Hairdressing Awards 2008 have been announced with stylists from Sydney and Melbourne dominating the shortlist for the highly coveted title of Hair Expo Australian Hairdresser of the Year.

The ultimate accolade in hairdressing is guaranteed to end up in one of the two cities with all four of this year’s finalists based in either Sydney or Melbourne.

The 23rd annual Hair Expo Australia Hairdressing Awards celebrates the most exciting talent and achievements in Australian hairdressing, with 13 prestigious awards, including; Hair Expo Australian Hairdresser of the Year, Colour Technician of the Year, Salon Team of the Year and Young Entrepreneur 2008.

Brian Thomas, Event Director Hair Expo Australia said: “These awards are an incredible showcase, not only of the individual talent of the finalists and winners, but also of the internationally high standard of Australian hairdressing.  Looking at the creativity and innovation on display, and listening to the feedback of the judges, Australian hairdressing is, without a doubt, amongst the best in the world.”

The finalists in each category face an anxious wait with the winners set to be announced in June at the salon industry’s most eagerly anticipated event, Hair Expo 2008.

Frequently Asked Questions



Q: Does it cost to enter?
A: There is no entry fee.

Q: Do I need to complete one form per person?
A: Yes. That person may then enter several categories on the one form

Q: In Australian Hairdresser of the Year, I know it has to be wearable and commercial however can it slightly be editorial?
A: Best to refer to page 4 of the booklet, the photographic collection points 6 and 7.

Q: Do you provide a model release sheet or do we provide our own model release form?
A: We will provide your model release form and any other declarations that are required to be signed for your submission.

Q: Can one person enter one category twice?
A: You can only enter each category once.

Q: I have heard that Hair Expo provides a CV/Questionnaire this year. Do I need to provide anything else apart from the photographic collection?
A: Each category outlines in the CV /Questionnaire the supporting documentation required by you. If you have supporting documentation that you believe adds to your CV do include this however it must be separate to the CV and not bound together.

Ann Maree Mason farewells Hair Expo

Ann-Maree Mason, Event Manager of Hair Expo Australia, has announced that she will be stepping down from the
post in early 2008 to pursue a new opportunity within the salon industry.

However, she leaves behind an event

that is well on track to being the biggest and best yet, with this year’s participation up 16% on 2007’s show.

Hair Expo Australia 2008 will be passed into the capable hands of Brian Thomas, Reed Exhibitions Australia
Commercial Director who will act as the event’s interim manager. Brian has over 14 years experience in the
exhibitions and events industry and has handled some of the country’s biggest events, including the General
Practitioner Conference and Exhibition – the largest exhibition for GPs in Australia incorporating an exhibition,
education and awards program.

An announcement will be made to the industry shortly on Ann-Maree’s successor. In the meantime, it’s business
as usual with the Hair Expo team of Matt Davies, Account Manager; Alana Ross, Senior Coordinator and Libby
Brooks Molloy, Awards Coordinator

Hair Expo Australia 2008 will continue to follow Ann-Maree’s original vision of a new, dynamic and exciting event.

Key International and Australian talent have been locked into the Hair Expo 2008 education and event program
and there are also many exciting new initiatives to be unveiled. A full list of key talent and events is due to be
published on 1st February, in the next issue of Culture Magazine and on the Hair Expo website
(www.hairexpoaustralia.com) meanwhile entries and nominations for the 23rd Annual Hairdressing Awards are
well underway.

Hair Expo 2008 edition has officially launched.

Now under the guidance of Reed Exhibitions we now have a 'new and improved' hair Expo (if thats possible I'm excited!)
