Excellent Edges Scissor Kit - an ongoing review. Part 1

exedges hairdressing scissors

Did somebody say scissors? Yup - I guess that was me.
This will be the first installment in an ongoing review of the Excellent Edges 'Fish Kit' scissors. So what is my first impression as I unwrap this box of goodies...

Just so yo be really clear in what I'll try to do here... my plan is to give a week by week run down on my new Excellent Edges scissor kit. So as I learn & discover these wondrous shears you can follow along too. If you like what I find - great. If not - great. Either way you can participate too in this forum thread. So without further ado, lets open a box of good stuff.

Well first impressions are funny things. My first impression is - LOVE!
Yes, that just about describes it. Love. It was the full 'take my breath away', beating heart, dry throat, scared but excited, butterflies in your tummy... well - you know what I'm saying ;-)

Shortcuts Salon & Spa Software Website

shortcuts_wesite

Shortcuts salon management software needs no real introduction. Considered as the Hairdressing and Spa industry leader in salon business systems Shortcuts have had an unchallenged lead in the software arena for over a decade.
So what more is there to say about it? We take a look at their website to see if we can dig up an extra gem or two.

A nice clean navigation bar is always a welcome sight (pardon the pun). So thats a good start for a software company. Surprisingly the site is not too bad on the eyes either, thats always a positive as we hairdresser's prefer 'pretty, beautiful things' (and why wouldn't we?).
I rolled up my sleeves, dusted off my mouse and dug about in search of gems. And gems i did find!

Excellent Edges - World's Best Scissorsmiths

fish kit by excellent edges

Have you ever seen a pair of 'Fish" branded shears from Excellent Edges Scissorsmiths?
If not it's hard to explain what an incredible divergence the design of these blades are from 'conventional wisdom'.
With names like
Edges Premium Marlin, Edges Premium Barracuda , Edges Premium Shark, Snapper or Pirahna these high tech snippers are a marvel to behold.

My first reaction upon sighting these
uber modern shears was something like "What the..?". My second though was "I want them!" For a specialist cutter these scissors open up a world of possibilities.
Take a look on the excellent
Exedges Website you'll find full details of these modern master pieces. I bet you'll want them too ;-)

Staff $, wages$, salaries$, Super$, Workcover$, holiday pay$...$...$...

Running a salon business has got les to do with how straight a bob that you can cut. And much more to do with how great a team you can build.
Like all armies, salon staff march on their stomachs. They'll do the job alright. But you have to reward their good endevour properly. That of course means money, money & more money.
And that particular buck stops with the salon owner

In this series I'll cover many issues related to the

Hair Competition Madness - 'I must win more tin, I must win more tin...'

Oh my Lordy!
Is it just me or are hairdresser's Competition crazy?

There was a time - not so long ago that we went to work. Snipped some hair, swept a floor, covered some grey, had a chat. And went home (that means went to a nite club actually). You now life was simple.

So how did we get to this? Competition is dominating our calender these days. Now don't get me wrong here, I do love the adrenaline & glamour of it all. BUT!
Obviously the salon work is still there. however now after work we don't go home or to a nite club :-(
We practice or shoot or practice or sit on the computer typing.

Seems our industry is obsessed with tin trophies. 'I must win more tin, I must win more tin...'
Can we stop this already!
